The New Somm
After launching Somm beta, we gathered a lot of feedback, and we created a brand new experience. The fundamentals are the same, but we think you’ll like this version a lot.
-
One major improvement is that we are now in over 7000 restaurants, and have about over 1 million bottles of wine in the database. Wine is a global business, and although we don’t think many people care about wines outside their continent, since we use a global approach to rating wines, we need to account for the opinions of sommeliers around the world. About a third of our wines are from countries outside the US. Our ratings get much better when we have more data. We even have wine lists from the 2000’s we use for ranking purposes, we don’t show it to you because although wine ages well, wine lists don’t necessarily.
-
We worked hard to improve accuracy of the wines we show, and to improve the speed that it is shown.
-
You can now save wines, rate wines, and save searches in the pro version (we currently have it on an indefinite trial period and doesn’t require a credit card). You get auto-notified when a wine you want shows up.
-
We are very excited to be working on more new features. We have a feature which you can use to take a photo of a wine list yourself. You can use it, but it’s still in BETA. We are also working on trying to improve our food pairing recommendations, and general flavour profile recommendations (using ai of course).
Enough reading, go drink some wine!
